Quartz vs. granite

Both are excellent kitchen surfaces. The right one depends on the look you want and how you use your kitchen.

General guidance. Performance varies by brand, colour and slab; we'll go over specifics for the material you choose.
FeatureQuartzGranite
Durability Engineered from crushed quartz and resin. Very hard and non-porous, with good resistance to chips, scratches and stains. Solid natural stone. Very hard and scratch-resistant. Edges can chip if struck hard.
Maintenance No sealing needed. Wipe down with mild soap and water. Naturally porous, so periodic sealing is recommended to resist stains. Clean with mild soap and water.
Heat resistance Good, but the resin can scorch or discolour under direct high heat. Always use a trivet for hot pots. Excellent. Handles high heat well, though trivets are still recommended to protect the sealer.
Look Consistent colour and pattern from slab to slab, including realistic marble-look veining. One-of-a-kind natural patterns, flecks and movement. No two slabs are the same.
Good fit for Busy family kitchens, bright whites, and anyone who wants a low-maintenance surface. People who love natural stone character, and kitchens that see a lot of heat near the cooktop.

Edge profiles

The edge is the detail you touch every day. Each drawing shows the edge in cross-section.

  • Eased

Square edge with slightly softened corners. Clean and modern.

  • Bevel

An angled cut along the top corner. Crisp, with a subtle highlight.

  • Half bullnose

Rounded on top, square underneath. Gentle on hips and elbows.

  • Full bullnose

Fully rounded top and bottom. Soft, family-friendly profile.

  • Ogee

An S-shaped curve for a traditional, decorative edge.

  • Mitered

A 45° joined apron that makes the slab look thick and solid. Used for waterfall ends.
